Resumes are a great way to market yourself for an internship. We encourage you to take the time to make a great resume, you are creating a marketing brochure that will sell your skills to a prospective employer. Be sure to keep your resume up-to-date as you move through your academic and career journey--it is much easier to add and edit as you go.
Cover Letter: When applying for a job, a cover letter should be sent or posted with your resume. Your cover letter should be specific to the position you are applying for, relating your skills and experience to those noted in the job posting. Your cover letter is your first (and best) chance to make a good impression! This cover should be specific to your internship position. Being we are a creative company it is okay to have fun with the design!
Student Internship Agreement: All students are required to complete this form that reminds you of how important it is to provide high-quality service during your internship. There are only three different types of documents required during the internship itself, but these are some of the most important documents that you will create/maintain during the internship process.
In addition to being required for completion of your internship, the 2 sets of document created by the student--the Weekly Progress Workbook and the Professional Readings--can be beneficial in successfully getting a job and starting your career.
Intern generated and managed documents:
Weekly Progress Workbook: This log helps your internship coordinator track your work. Each intern must maintain a digital notebook to be shared with their True Leader at the end of the internship.
Professional Readings: Complete 4 assignments exploring publications related to your project. Sources can be found online or through the library's resources.
Assignments:
Solving Problems – Identify a problem within your field and internship in the first few weeks.
Project Research – By week 3, research sources to assist with your current project.
Major Publications in the Field – Identify, subscribe to, and follow publications relevant to your field to stay updated on trends.
Types of Sources/Publication – Understand the difference between popular magazines, trade magazines, and academic journals.
True leader documents:
Internship Performance Evaluation Forms: These are opportunities to evaluate your internship effort. These forms will be completed and reviewed with you halfway through your internship and at the end.
There are several different types of documents required after the internship is completed.
The most important document is your Final Internship Report.
Final Internship Report: The purpose of the report is to obtain an understanding of and appreciation for the total organizational structure of True Conglomerate You will also describe your overall experience as an intern at True Conglomerate.
Final Resume: A final resume should be completed at the end of your internship. List your internship under “experience” in your final resume. In listing your experience, the most recent is listed first; therefore, your internship should be listed first. Your final resume must include your internship.
When listing an internship under your job experience section, remember to:
Clearly indicate that it was an internship experience. Do not mislead prospective employers into thinking it was a regular job, be honest of your experience or lack thereof. There is a big difference between accepting a intern/student for a supervised training experience and hiring someone who is believed to be already qualified in the position.
List your job title as that of intern.
List the responsibilities of your internship position.
Thank You Letter: Write a professional thank you letter to True Conglomerate. We want to help you make this one of your best practices in the event you apply for other intern or career opportunities. It should not have any spelling or grammatical errors, be sure to proof read.
Letter of Recommendation: After you have completed your internship, take the time to ask your True leader for a letter of recommendation. In the future, when you are looking for a new position, this letter of recommendation may be very useful. It also helps you know how well you did on your internship.
